Let's sit down and work it all out together.

Hi there, I’m Kara!

I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor and a coach with 25+ years of experience working with teens, parents, and families in St. Louis and around the country. My coaching practice exists to do one thing well: help parents and teens believe in themselves.

I work with parents to build the kind of homes where teens can grow into capable, confident young adults. I work with teens to build the inner skills, self-knowledge, and confidence that make these years feel possible. The work is practical, personalized, and grounded in 25 years of clinical experience.

I received my B.S. in Special Education from Miami University and my M.S./Ed.S from Indiana University. I've been honored to speak at the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) annual conference on BFRBs and the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) national conference on teens and confidence building. I contributed to The Drama Years(Simon & Schuster) and served as a consulting editor on The BFRB Workbook for Teens and Young Adults (Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 2025).

I served as a consultant and on the advisory board of Girl Talk, where I helped lead curriculum development. Nearly two decades ago, I helped launch a camp for middle school girls through Girl Talk that continues today, serving girls from across the country. I also serve on the board of Girls in the Know and speak in their expert speaker series.

I'm a regular speaker at schools and organizations throughout St. Louis, including Washington University, Visitation Academy of St. Louis, Cor Jesu Academy, MICDS, Villa Duchesne, Ladue Middle School, The Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School, United Hebrew Congregation, CHADS Coalition for Mental Health, and NCJW.

I've also been a guest on A Parent Page with Mindy Knows and on The Character's Toolkit podcast with Marisa Gelfand, LPC.

What is it like working with you?

You'll leave with something to do, not just something to think about.

Coaching with me is warm but direct. We do the real work, but we have room for laughter, honesty, and the occasional good cry along the way. I bring clinical depth and 25 years of experience working with families, paired with practical strategy and a fundamental belief in the people I work with.

“Kara helped me believe that I could actually achieve something I never dreamt possible and guided me to make that dream a reality. I would have not been where I am now without her knowledge and support”

— Andrea

Beyond coaching

In addition to my coaching and therapy practice, I created Making the Middle, an online toolbox for parents navigating the middle school years. The masterclass teaches the framework. Coaching is the 1:1 support that makes it real for your family.
